The wood finish comes right off in a dishwasher and I think it will come off in a sort time even when being hand cleaned in a sink with only warm water. The wood without the finish feels very rough and the color looks like is it very old. The blades are good and the overall shape and feel is fine but the handles are just too low a quality for any sort of regular use.

I ordered these Spreader Knives with another combined order and as soon as they arrived I made a separate order for 4 more. They have a serrated edge that is very sharp for cutting most anything. The handles are sturdy and well made and the Spread side works well because it's nice and wide compared to say a butter knife. I think especially for the price, it's quite a deal. The Product was exactly what I was looking for and the quality was better than I expected. The only negative was the color of the handle. I wished that this Brand had a darker wooden handle. But that was the only thing I would have preferred. I would buy it again. -Happy customer.

These butter knives are very attractive and perfect for a rustic style kitchen. While not of the highest quality, they will give you plenty of great use with proper care. As others have mentioned, the finish on the wood is water soluble and may stain, which is why you need to take proper care. I hesitated to buy these as they are wood handled, wood and washing, uggh. I wanted more like the plastic handled one that my family fights over and is so easy to clean. These are an interesting set of knives that are good for party situations, or where there are trays with cheeses and other similar appetizers. I like the wide handles, which allow for a sturdy and steady grip. As for cutting sandwiches and breads, I give them mixed reviews, as it really depends upon the consistency of the bread. I received a splinter from one of the knives right after opening the package because the poor workmanship.The color of these spreaders is nowhere close to the images. Don't put in the dishwasher unless you want all of the handle coating to come off. I'll have to reseal them. May not be effective at spreading very thinly over a large surface area.

Solid, large, serrated and very useful. Subjecting them to the dishwasher; however, takes the nice finish off the handles, and pits some of the (apparently) plated blades.

So much netter than a table knife for making a sandwich that I wish I had tried them years ago. They are even capable (not a primary use though) of using it as an eating utensil in a pinch-- a weird morph of a spoon, knife hybrid which can be used alone to cut a piece off of a smoked sausage (for example) and convey it to your mouth and seems to work better for stirring in a bowl like rice and thick chili.
