Family can be terrible and McManus proves it in his latest issue of COUSINS. Reading this book was pure PLEASURE. Not only because I was shocked by the turn of events towards the end, but also because I was able to devour this book at an incredible pace. Guys, I've had the HARDEST time when it comes to reading a book in a day (I used to be able to, but the last few months have changed that). There weren't any problems at all. It's that good; The novel is fascinating, mysterious, and downright TERRIFIC when it comes to what's really going on. BUT! I love it. If you're a fan of juvenile crime (yes, this book is more of a crime than a thriller like her other books) then this book is for you! Sometimes readers can be put off by the characters' ages, but trust me, you don't really realize that these kids are teenagers. You've been so enmeshed in a story of secrets, shame and lies you forgot how old they are! Okay, now onto my specific likes and dislikes of the novel (this is a fairly new thing I'm doing, I hope it helps potential readers who might want something more specific in the reviews they read). You can read them below. I will keep spoilers out of the game as no one wants to know the plot twist before reading a mystery like this! Usually the setting can set the tone of the story, but in this case it doesn't. What looks like an idyllic summer location is actually a mask for the crazy things that happen in this story. As if the setting itself hides all the lies behind it. I loved it so much! When it comes to dark family secrets and themes, I don't always have to read about a gothic setting (although that kind of setting always works and sets the tone), and that's proven to be the case here. so good for this story. I usually prefer to keep the point of view at level 2 because I get confused when too many characters are talking to me (LOL) but I think John, Millie and Aubrey's point of view was REQUIRED to close this circle shut down. π The twist at the end was EPIC. I love an EPIC TURN, especially when I don't understand it before it happens, and that's exactly what we get here. I was shocked. It's also something that honestly scared me because I wasn't expecting it and I could only IMAGINE it **shudders* in real lifeπ The book is compulsive to read. It's so intriguing and you WANT the answers so much you keep reading despite the time. I love books that can take over and this one did it! When my son is a little older I will read these books because I know he will love them! you can literally FEEL it, although she writes) but things don't really show until the end. As I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm not a big fan of slow-paced puzzles or suspense, and that's what this book is all about. I liked how the story unfolded but it was a bit slow. π All parents of children were idiots. I hate to see parents of children behaving in such a childish and horrible way and you see a lot of that in this book. A LOT.π¦π¨π π ππ‘π ππ§ π¨π£In the latest issue of McManus, readers will discover that not all families are perfect. Cousins is a damn good teen thriller and not difficult to read in one sitting. If you're like me then you can't stop! It is hauntingly readable, captivating, cryptic and LEGAL. Highly recommended!π π¬ π₯ππ§ππ‘π: ββββ
