I accidentally dropped my 3DS (XL), the top screen cracked and stopped working. I contacted Nintendo and they said it would cost around $170-$180 to fix. I did some googling and found an iFixit guide on how to replace my screen (link below). I figured that $25 plus the time it took me to fix it myself was a lot better than losing another $150 when the thing was worth little more than buying it new, so I decided Therefore. In short, despite my moderate inability, I managed and the new screen worked perfectly. I wouldn't recommend doing DIY repairs unless you have experience with electronics. (I used to fix laptops so it was handy for me to try). That being said, if you or someone you know (and trust!) can perform the repair, it's a much cheaper alternative to sending your console back to Nintendo if your top screen is broken. (.)
