This collar is exactly as promised. The outer layer is very soft and does not irritate the dog's throat. The inside is thick plastic (I think they say PVC?) that feels solid. My dogs clawed and bit at it when fully inflated (at first they thought it was a fun toy) and it held up very well. Despite the pictures, I was pleasantly surprised when the pump arrived. It took less than five minutes to inflate a large collar. When I put it on my dog for the first time, I put it on without the collar and he was able to pull it out. But I went back and read the instructions and once I attached the collar it worked great! Once he got used to it, he felt very comfortable, even using it as a makeshift pillow and falling asleep on it. I left it on for a few hours while I was at home and then went to the grocery store and everything was perfect! I will definitely be using this in the future when my dogs will inevitably get hurt because of all the gross things they do. This is a great product and I would highly recommend it for the average dog owner. The package says dogs with long necks like greyhounds or long bodies like dachshunds can reach a donut, but my two mutts can't yet. I'm also sorry I didn't get a medium instead of large as it's quite large and I have to pull the velcro quite tight so if your dog is on the verge of a size I would lean towards a small. For me this is not a deciding factor as it still works great on my dogs!
