They are not brittle at all, none broke and I have thick hair. I even tried a few from the set to see if the strength of the first pair was a fluke. no difference. The size is a big improvement over the standard. not small, but not too big either. There are so many in one pack that I never have to search for a replacement. Eliminates the hassle of forgetting to go to that aisle at the supermarket! I don't need more but wanted to buy another pack just because they are so different from the well known brands too. Stop overspending to fret when they break. Highly recommended!
