I'm severely allergic to dust mites so need something to cover all mattresses. Do not use a mattress topper if it only slides on top. I chose this one because the company says the pore size is only 1 micron, which is about as small as it gets. Less = better if you want to prevent dust mites from getting in (if your mattress is new) or getting somewhere where you can breathe them in (if your mattress is old and already has dust mites on it). The sheet I use for my mattress is tight as hell, so when I make the bed I just lay the sheet down to stretch out any excess mattress cover fabric and tuck it under the mattress. I think unless your sheet is very thick you may need to fold the extra fabric under the mattress when making your bed.
