Suction cups work fine on flat surfaces like glass and mirrors. But I bought them for something unusual and they didn't work: I wanted to make a detachable guitar strap without drilling holes in the body. The idea is to attach the ends of the strap to the hooks at the top of the cups. The tool has a shiny, non-porous surface, but the two contact points have different degrees of curvature. While the cups seemed to hold up well, once weight was applied to the top hooks, the cups quickly came loose. the trivial weight and application of these suction cups to anything less than flat surfaces.
