Review on Efficiently Trim Cases with LEE PRECISION Quick Trim Case Trimmer by Mark Colbert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This gives a nice even cut all around

I am using this with a .308 die on an RCBS press with an RCBS case holder. I used the instructions on the die to fully tighten the lock nut and tightened it with my fingers in the press. I put the trimmer in the die and put the altered and cleaned brass in the shell holder. Run it about 15 revs which reduced it by .010". After a while I adjusted the rhythm so that the size of each sleeve could be changed from 2.020 to 2.005 in about 20 turns. Depending on the setting ring, I set the matrix to the maximum reduction (there is no digital gradation). Out of 80 cases, they all fell in the 2.005 to 2.000 inch range, except for two where a piece of brass appeared to be stuck in the outer bevel cutter, causing too much cutting in the outer bevel. This reduced them to 1.998, and I discarded them because if I cut them outside of the outer bevel (in other words, the OUTER part got too much bevel), it would have brought them to 1.995 or less, probably because of a piece of sand the spring caused cutters to get stuck in the down position. Each time this happened there was a large chip in the brass in the chamfering cutters. I suggest doing about ten turns, then pulling the body down, rotating it, coming back up and cutting the rest This gives a good even cut all around It's MUCH easier to carve brass on it than with one of the available "mini-machines" - they require too much fumbling to remove the shell and measure it with a caliper, twist the handle, lower the body, shoot, measure, done. It took me 80 cases in about 20 minutes with little to no adjustment. I also recommend removing the trimmer about every 5 cases and blowing out the accumulated brass shavings between the knife and the die, otherwise the length will become too long and additional cutting will be required.
