Install 3 of these crosses and thrust bearings (also Spicer). Until I did, I wasn't sure if I really needed them. But two things became immediately clear. When I pull the clutch to start the engine, the truck rolls down the driveway. Previously, the thrust bearing was so dry and sticky that it could act as a hill holder. This is only a very small guess, but wow! Second, the gearbox backlash is completely gone, and when I ease off the throttle/throttle there is a smooth deceleration with no bumps, jerks or pops. The dealer needed over 800 parts for this job and had over 400 parts in total. I completed this job with a friend in my driveway in about 4 hours. We reused the rubber boot and the straps on the boot. No seals were needed on the differential or gearbox as these were previously serviced. U-connections are supplied with cubic zirconia fittings (8mm, not 5/16"). No special tools were used - large vise, hammer, ball stop, chisel, needle nose pliers, large clamp, large sockets, penetrating grease, blue thread holder.
