Review on Arkon Mounts TAB-CM117 Extension Arm Tablet Mount - Windshield Suction, Black (Retail) by Ricky Gilbert

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Thoughtful accents, unusual design that allows you to install it on the dashboard of almost any car

Very smart - comes with two sets of different length 'holder' clips. Using the longer one allowed me to get this mount to work with the iPad mini (nudged/"vertical"). All clips are unusually deep, with small lugs for extra grip. Result: I don't have to remove the folded folio to fit comfortably in the holder. Wonderful. These aren't necessarily downsides, but note that the pivot point where the arm meets the suction end only moves up/down, and the end of the mount rests on a sphere that only moves about 30 degrees in either direction can turn. However, the design is currently unique and the materials should be adequate if not overly crowded (lower mid-range plastic). or line curvature, or both). It's clearly designed to drop down to dash level, giving you the confidence of clinging to the glass without blocking your view like you would with a traditional windshield mount. Note, however, that if your windshield tilts very slightly (i.e. less vertical than average) you may have to get creative with where the extractor mounts, as the telescopic arm cannot be shortened to less than 16 inches. On my Prius I had to attach the air intake to the windshield almost at dash level so the bracket could reach the dash but not fly out. It's a little strange, but it works.

Cons
  • Good, but not very
