I have two 27" 2011 Apple Cinema Displays and wanted to connect them to my new 2019/2020 Mac Pro which is coming soon. I also have a pair of MacBook Pros with USBC/Thunderbolt ports. I took the cable out of the box, connected it to the display cable, connected it to one of my MacBook Pro - worked EXCELLENT Then I connected the monitor's USB cable to the USB 2 -> USB C (Apple) cable, connected it to the Connected laptop, the video camera on the monitor worked great Rarely does something work so easily out of the box.
