My partner loves to drink whiskey every night after work. I thought he would like a good decanter so I bought this Carina whiskey decanter. This decanter and its stopper are made of crystal. There is no plastic on the cork like other brands of whiskey decanters. This decanter holds 25 ounces, which is pointless as it can't hold a 750 milliliter bottle of whiskey. What good is a decanter that can't hold a whole small bottle of whisky? The decanter is too small to hold an entire 750ml bottle of whisky. Although this decanter is made of crystal, it is marketed as lead-free. We tested the decanter for lead as well as the whiskey we kept in the decanter and both tested negative for lead. This means that the manufacturer's claim that the crystal is lead-free is true, unlike other brands. This carafe was very well packaged in a beautiful gift box. It was a birthday present for my significant other, so I appreciated the beautiful, gift-worthy packaging. The decanter is very heavy compared to other branded decanters we have had in the past. The base of the decanter is weighted so it stands flat on any flat surface. The decanter crystal does not release any chemicals into your drink, so my significant other's whiskey tasted clean and fresh every time. Unfortunately, this carafe cannot be used for long-term storage of alcoholic beverages as the cork is not airtight. The cork is made of the same crystal as the carafe and they rub against each other but nothing makes the seal airtight. The cork fits easily when the carafe is on a flat surface, but it still doesn't seal. If you lift the carafe while the cork is still in, the cork will jump and wobble and make a clinking noise. The cork really doesn't fit well, which is why I gave this carafe four stars. The amazing whiskey decanter is the only thing missing from your collection. With a comfortable handle, weighted base and airtight seal, this crystal carafe is ideal for rum, whiskey, bourbon and wine. A lead free glass bottle makes a great gift for a husband, father or boss as it is elegant and well made. My partner has used this carafe for whisky, bourbon and grand marnier. The decanter is easy to clean and the alcohol will not stain the decanter or penetrate the crystal, making the decanter taste like the last alcohol stored in it. Some brands will forever resemble the first alcohol you pour in. This carafe is very smooth on the outside. Still, it fits comfortably in your hand, unlike some decanters that are too wide to fit in your hand. Thanks to the practical handle, it is easy to pour water from this carafe. I wish other decanter brands had the same comfortable grip as this decanter. Little did we know when my significant other used this carafe that the cork was leaking. He poured the whiskey into a decanter and the taste quickly deteriorated because the decanter was unsealed. This carafe is advertised as dishwasher safe, but I do not recommend cleaning it in the dishwasher. The carafe retains the flavor of any dish soap you use in the dishwasher, for some reason it doesn't wash out of the carafe completely. We had to hand wash the carafe again. In terms of price, this carafe is more expensive than similarly sized crystal carafes at Revain. It's not the most expensive decanter, but it's far from the cheapest decanter either. After all, this carafe has a good weight and looks good in our living room. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold a whole small bottle (750 milliliters) of whiskey and the cork is leaking. So unless you drink all of the alcohol in one or two servings, it will lose its flavor.
