At first glance, the O-ring does not seem to screw onto the ball valve. You do NOT have to grind the ball for the ring to fit. Here's what I did. 1. Put the ring on the ball. 2. Insert the ball into the socket. 3. Place the phone holder on a flat surface as shown in the 1st picture. 4. Place your thumbs and forefingers on the ring as shown in the 2nd picture. 5. Click on the ring. This will slightly press the socket against the ball. Be sure to flatten the hole in the ring so it doesn't twist. 6. Press the ring and turn it clockwise at the same time. This allows the threads of the ring and bushing to mesh. Once the threads of the ring have engaged the threads of the coupler, you can tighten the ring onto the coupler. Tighten the ring until you reach the desired tightness.
