Review on πŸšͺ NAMSAN Pet Door for Screen Door - Doggy Door Protector Slide with Magnetic Flap - Automatic Close & Lockable - Cat Door Screen Gate by Brock Chisholm

Great door but cheap glasses size screws stop the show.

This is a great door, much better than the horrible Petsafe door. It's decently constructed, sturdy, and pretty easy to install. However, it has a small but very annoying problem that is easy to fix. Two plastic frames glued together over the screen material are held together by 8 very small tiny screws that screw directly into the plastic frame. Just to get the perspective right, these screws aren't much bigger than eyeglass screws. And to make matters worse, those screws are attached to relatively soft plastic. So if you're trying to stick those two bezels onto a heavy screen (like a pet-resistant screen), you probably have a 100 percent chance of getting more if all the threads aren't on the plastic frame. If one day you manage to put the frames together without snapping the thread, your 40-pound border collie will find a way to break the frames while flying through the dog door at full speed. Also, there are 16 screw holes, but Namsan chose to pack only 8 screws. Why skimp on the one essential element that holds the door frames to the screen? But then again, the screws are so small they're practically useless, so the number of screws packed with the door is pretty much pointless. Go to your nearest hardware store, buy a dozen (12) #6=32 x 3/8 inch zinc plated (stainless) button head machine screws and nuts, 2 dozen (24) washers to cover the holes, and a dozen (12) Lock washers to be placed under the nuts. Drill 12 holes in the frame using the screw holes provided. Screw the frame tight. Voila, all screw problems are gone and you don't have to worry about your dog blowing his head out of your door on impact. The fix is actually very simple, but takes time and money. I burned for 3.5 hours. trying to get it working on that door, and probably a few bucks for gas going to Home Depot. It's actually a great dog door. Combined with a tough, pet-resistant vinyl grille, the door looks pretty darn bulletproof, but only after it's locked using the solution above. But until Namsan finds a better screw mounting solution, it's only worth 2 stars.

Pros
  • Only install this pet door in the inside/outside screen door, window and other areas of the screen. It cannot be used on extra thick wooden doors, iron/aluminium doors or walls. Installation instructions included, easy to install.
