Well here is my long story. Lol 4 years ago we renovated our basement and got big guns to clean the carpet because it was in good condition. Everything was fine until our dehumidifier ran out 3 weeks ago. When this happened, there was a terrible smell of urine. Now we knew that the carpet was very clean. However, we had just put our cat to sleep when we suddenly discovered that he had a malignant tumor around his heart and was suffering greatly. Poor kitty didn't make it onto the stretcher for a while as he was ill and we didn't know about it, or was it old piss from a guest abusing the privilege of having their dog with them in our guest rooms? Regardless, the smell was awful, soaked everything and freaked me out. We doused the suspect area in vinegar and let it sit for a week, then called our carpet expert friend who advised us to call a steam carpet cleaning company. The smell of urine is still present at a lower level, combined with the smell of vinegar, which is enough to make me very unhappy. So the next step is to find out what is in the carpet. I used to have a pet black light but now there are these nifty LEDs so thanks to the reviews I gave this one a try. Wow! it definitely works, and in fact I've now confirmed the reason for my excitement. I found a lot of yellow stains which I think are some urine and some old vomit because I remember cleaning those areas. They all turn yellow. Then there are the white areas, especially where the vinegar was applied and the steamships operated. These areas still smell (hence the reason for buying the lights). I asked the community about the differences in colors and what they might mean. I would like to hear the opinion of the manufacturer. My next step is a natural wonder that works amazingly, but I see a new rug in my future once I've saved every penny. Nevertheless, I give this product 5 stars because it works and is well made. Sturdy metal, good size but not too big and clunky - nice for my female hand - and a well sized beam. This is a product worth buying.
