No plastic knife is strong enough to cut through cold butter sticks from the fridge. This is no exception. It's a nice accessory, but that's about all it's good for. Still, I'm glad I bought this oiler. It was cheap and worked well, attractive enough on the counter and durable. The main thing about preserving oil is that it only deteriorates when exposed to light, which solved this problem. It blocks all light when the lid is closed to keep the oil from going rancid. Also suitable for the door shelf of the refrigerator. What more do you want. Get one.
