In July 2008 we adopted Jack Russell. He should only live 3 months because he has lymphoma. The vet prescribed him a high dose of prednisolone. We managed to get the prednisolone dose down by 75% and over a year later he was still alive and well (but not cured, he still has those big lymph nodes). Within a year he started losing his hair. Much of what's on the shelf is labeled "balanced," meaning it contains omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, and our modern diet already contains an excess of these compounds. If you want to learn more about omega-3 fatty acids, read the book: Queen of Fats. The book was written by a reporter, and although it's packed with scientific information, it's very accessible. It was a bit like reading a crime novel. And I felt like I understood organic chemistry differently than I did in college.
