Good: I was looking for a NAS/Samba server builder with a 3TB USB 3.0 hard drive. I have a Raspberry Pi 3, but the device uses USB 2.0 and generally has poor performance. This device has a USB 3.0 port and a true Gigabit Ethernet port. It works very well so far. I estimate around 60 MB/s on average with constant bursts of almost 100 MB/s. Downloads fluctuate around 28 MB/s. I built the whole system for about $120 ($70 drive, $40 board, $10 microSD) and existing power supply. The whole setup idles at about 425 mA, or about 2,125 watts. That's a bit more than the Pi 3 setup. Cons: Since the device is relatively new, it's difficult to find information/instructions. I had to fiddle with setting up the NAS from various Ubuntu sites. I think it will only get better with time. Ugly: Looks like they're targeting this as a 4K multimedia device. It synced to my 4K monitor with no issues. Kodi is great for unencrypted content, but the problem with these devices is that the DRM support works so you can get HD/4K streaming. The device supports Widevine L1 DRM, but I'm not sure if that's enough.
