This lock is exactly what I needed, however the lock I received from Revain today had a cylinder that was not worked very well. Kryptonite says the lock has a new design and I'm wondering if all the bugs have already been fixed. Eventually the key only went halfway in and I could see that the back layers of the cylinder didn't line up with the outer layers. I don't know how many layers it is, but since the key only went halfway, it wasn't possible to rotate the back layers to line up with the outer layers. Eventually, after turning the key back and forth very gently for about ten minutes, the layers were aligned and the key went all the way in. Unfortunately the key continued to encounter resistance when turning in the cylinder and I had to ask Revain for a replacement. I wouldn't trust the resulting lock to work properly outside of the home. I have several other kryptonite locks and all the keys turn very freely in the cylinders. I'm wondering if I have a bad lock or the kryptonite will have issues with this new design. Update: Looking further into the lock, I found that the black case that rotates to close the keyhole was also working very hard. As I adjusted the case, I saw fibrous plastic shavings visible under the rim of the case around the keyhole. I removed some shavings with tweezers and as I turned the lid back and forth more shavings popped out around the keyhole. When I pulled it out, the keyhole cover turned easier. All the chips in the attached photo came out from under the cover of the lock's keyhole! If chips got into the cylinder when assembling the lock or bounced around during transport, this can explain why the cylinder is difficult to turn and the layers of the cylinder are sometimes misaligned when the key is inserted or removed from the lock. Another update: Today, while waiting for the Revain replacement lock to arrive, I took another look at the lock. Looking at the keyhole with a powerful flashlight, the design of the lock's metal body appears to include a narrow slot running from the keyhole to the black plastic end of the lock. I can't see how far the crack extends, but I can surmise that if it has sharp edges and if the rotating black keyhole cover is too tight against the lock body, or if the keyhole cover has an uneven underside, the effect of when I die Turning the cover back and forth to open and repair the keyhole could actually cause the sharp edges of the gap in the lock body to create the shavings I found. In turn, if chips get into the cylinder, that can cause the cylinder problems I've experienced. Last update: a comment asked if the new lock had the same problem - it didn't! I am happy with the lock replacement and it has worked well so far.
