Review on 40-Cup Rectangular Airtight Food Storage Container by Snapware by Crystal Johnson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice design, doesn't last long, overpriced

I bought this to store bananas with BlueApple food preservative: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P87B16M/ref =ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works great with BlueApple, so right after installing it I give it 3 stars for its performance. The pouring of the silicone sealant into the plastic lid is thought out to the smallest detail and has an excellent design. But experience tells me that the four hinged sides of the lid, which act as clips to keep it sealed, won't last long. Repeated opening and closing will soon cause one of them to break, and if it does, it's useless as an airtight container. Beyond that, there is nothing special about the materials used or the molding of this container. The material is probably twenty cents plus labor for fifty cents plus shipping to the US for fifty cents. So the price is really prohibitive and I wouldn't pay if I could physically get to the store. After all, it was made in China and arrived with the characteristic smell of all Chinese goods. I'm sure we'll find out one day that China is tackling the toxic waste problem by putting a little bit of it on everything that's exported to the US. I soaked it in hot soapy water overnight and rinsed it in hot water and then let it dry. It wasn't until the smell went away that I felt comfortable putting food in it. So it works, but it doesn't inspire confidence in durability and it's not a good price.

Pros
  • Household and kitchen
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
