I ordered this stand to improve the ventilation of my 2012 Macbook Pro 13 inch Airflow The hottest area under my Macbook (back left next to all ports) is now almost completely covered by a rubber gasket. 1.5 inches wide on each side and spans the entire depth of the stand. My Macbook is 9 inches wide and 12.75 inches wide. That corresponds to 27 square meters. Inches (2 * 1.5" * 9") rubber covers almost a quarter of the bottom surface of the MacBook (9 inches * 12.75 inches = 114.75 square inches). If grooves were cut or molded into these rubber strips, it would easily reduce the rubber's contact with the underside of the computer by half. The stand is very stable. All it takes are four extreme contact points and some rubber on the front where the computer rests on the stand. The amount of elastic on the stand is overkill, but it's easy to set up.
