Gimmicks are best left on paper

I fell for the gimmick and purchased this because it has a USB input that promises to work with PS5 controllers where others do not. To be clear, this was before realizing the 8BitDo does support wireless connection to a PS5 controller. It was also before realizing this was a shortcoming, not a feature.Upon further research, I realized there are a few caveats to this device. The first is that you are always supposed to connect a controller wired before attempting to connect wireless. This should have been some sort of warning, as it is easily missed if you didn't intend to use it wired. The second is that the firmware is available, but only the original version is easy to locate. The site looks like it was made by a teen for a fundraiser. It probably has not changed much in terms of complexity since the original release of the device. The last is that the LED lights are hard to distinguish with three similar colors. The stickers make them obvious, but this is not the case in real life. After connecting a few different controllers with no response and not being able to find a newer firmware that needed to be installed, I gave up. I ordered the 8BitDo in hopes to salvage some sort of functionality with a PS4 controller, only to be pleasantly surprised that the PS5 controller worked out of the box.

Pros
  • Bluetooth Controller Compatibility: Xbox Series X Controller, Xbox Series S Controller, Xbox One Bluetooth Controller, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, PS5/PS4/PS3 Controller, Switch Pro, Wiimote, WiiU Pro and more. MAGIC-S Ultimate CAN connect MAYFLASH Arcade Sticks F300, F300 Elite, F500 and F500 Elite to work on PS5 for PS5 games.
Cons
  • The adapter does not work well with some third-party accessories and controllers
