We like to have charging cables around the house for convenience, so we needed more than just the cables that come with the devices. It's just a cable, so you'll need an existing USB male or female connector for it to work. While it appears to be durable, it's too early to say anything about the durability of this product. Even the best cables fail over time. I will update the review if it doesn't live up to expectations for durability or longevity.
