Don't think they're made of silk. Feels more like satin but does the same thing. I bought these because I have thigh length wavy hair and am tired of golf ball sized clumps getting stuck in hair ties. I'm losing so much hair. I have to wear my hair to work and it's always tied in a bun at the end of the day. It helps avoid that and I don't have to twist them three times and put in a lot of bobs for a secure fit. Double is perfect for the top knot. I like that they aren't ridiculously puffy like other elastics that are all the rage right now.
