To test this coffee mug, as usual, I poured a new mug, closed the lid and left it. To make sure it was still hot I didn't open it but instead felt the top of the lid. I started checking every 30 minutes and after 2 hours I started checking every 15 minutes. After about 3.5 hours I started removing the lid and after 4 hours and about 45 minutes my coffee was slightly warmer than room temperature. With this mug I don't have to worry if I can't drink my coffee or anything hot I have in it because I know it will keep my drinks hot for almost 5 hours. The mug fits in my mug holder as I have a double holder open in the middle. When it comes to keeping drinks cold, they seem to last more than 5 hours, especially when I put ice in them. Great mug, love the color and design.
