I recently did a video review of 3 different inexpensive lavalier mics - this one, the Olympus ME15 and the Azden EX503. Sony was by far the best. Here's what I liked about it: - The sound quality was "good enough" for me. In other words, after using it, I didn't feel like looking for something more expensive. - Rectangular plug - perfect for plugging into a small recorder and slipping into your pocket - (I use the H1 zoom) - Short cable but long enough. I believe the cord is about 4 feet long, which is enough to stretch from shirt to pocket. - Stereo microphone - not so much, but very handy as it avoids the need for post-editing. - LOUD - This was the loudest of all 3 mics I tested, meaning you will hear less noise with this mic compared to others. It requires some power, which the Zoom H1 offers, and I believe most small voice recorders do as well. This doesn't work with the MacBook Pro's built in headphone jack, but I don't think either of the mics will work. Why I bought this - I wanted to record my talk and I wanted something I could put in my bag and walk around the room with it. The Zoom H1 is the perfect (small) size for this, and it seems like a lot of video users end up using it for just that purpose. To make the video I recorded the video on an iPhone and the audio went to the Zoom H1. The iPhone also records sound. I brought them together in Final Cut Pro where there is a feature to sync the zoom sound with the iPhone sound - then it was easy to turn off the sound on the iPhone and just listen to the mic through the mic. Zoom No audio processing was done but I had to compress the video like hell to fit here on Amazon, this popular video site has a less compressed version.
