I'm a NASA admin, I have to download a lot of data from old space shuttle computers before we break them down and guess what - all space shuttles take up 3 .5 inch floppy disks. I could find dozens of floppy drives online that work with modern USB ports, but almost no floppy media! $7.45 billion worth of data from a flying lab isn't very cost-effective. But these discs did their job. They were affordable, in good condition, and I was able to transfer all 11.6MB of information from the Atlantis shuttle's computer in record time - just 4 hours!
