I've been buying Salomon Trail shoes for my dirt/off-road touring and running for a number of years now. They really wrap around your ankles, which is a must due to many spikes over the years. This was the first time I switched from Speedcross to XA Pro 3d V8. The transition from a more neutral/stable shoe to full stability was amazing, my feet/ankles felt better on my first hometrail outing but after 10 minutes of easy walking I felt blisters which I had never felt in speedcross. After returning home and comparing the two shoes, I noticed that the Speedcross has a wider midsection while the V8s feel more durable and stiff, and yes, the SpeedCross was broken, not new. So I did a bit of internet searching and spoke to my REI shop to find out that the Speedcross is more suited to soft dirt/dirt and the V8 is more suited to rocky sections which in turn need better traction in the middle. So if you like me, I have half-wide feet, take a V8 your size, but wide.
