Incredibly thin, good for study and studying

I gave this to my daughter over the summer as part of her Christmas gifts but I've been waiting until now to put it together. The concept is very cute and it's a fun, colorful design. But this thing is terrible to collect. I thought the hardest part would be that my almost 3 year old daughter would "help" me assemble it. nope Most frustratingly, this toy was poorly constructed and incredibly unstable. It took me an hour and a half to assemble this toy and that's because a lot of the structures fall apart during the work. The higher structures in particular don't have enough support and are incredibly wobbly. The slightest touch will cause parts to fall out of alignment. And since it's intended for younger kids who don't have the best fine motor skills, it's a recipe for frustration for you and your kids. I can't imagine a 3/4/5 year old building this alone. Instructions are shown in pictures only, which is theoretically normal. But as others have pointed out, it doesn't make it very clear where the structures should be on the boards and you need to place them accurately for the marble walkway to work. This becomes a real problem as the pieces keep falling apart because you have to keep going back to the instructions to rebuild the pieces and learn through trial and error. I ended up having to count the pins on the board in the instructions and try to copy the layout like this. I've never been so annoyed with a child's toy as I am with this one! I literally needed a drink after I was done. My daughter played with it for the full 10 minutes and during that time parts of the structure continued to fall apart. Also, there are two parts of the catwalk in particular where the support blocks are too close to the marble run, causing the marble to stall. And of course, as soon as you try to push the marble, part of the structure falls apart because it's not properly reinforced. This happened again and again. I've never had a toy that I was scared of putting together because it kept falling apart. And for the record, I have no problem assembling Ikea furniture myself! I got too frustrated and refused to pick it up again, which of course caused the baby to melt. I would definitely recommend if you don't have an indentation like others have used to reinforce the structure you can use Lego glue or something similar to give it more support. And when the product makers read, go back to the drawing board, reinforce higher structures, and create more detailed instructions.

Pros
  • It's amazing
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
