You will need 5 triple AAA batteries if you are giving this as a gift and want it ready to use. Bought for a 6 year old girl's birthday because she wanted spy stuff. She loved it, as did her 8-year-old brother and 11-year-old sister. They immediately went to play with him. If you have a pair of walkie-talkies, they'll play for hours.
