Attaching an LED strip to just one fan blade will cause serious vibration problems. Out of the box, it vibrates enough to shake it out of the USB port. Vibrations also propagate, although the USB hub will make noise as it vibrates on your desk. Balancing a fan is not as easy as adding weight to another blade. The blades are flexible and the LED strip makes one stiffer than the other, making you bite the air harder and this creates a 90 degree force after the more ribbed blades move (Google's gyro precession). So to make it run smoothly you need to add some weight on the side of the empty blade and a fair amount in between. I used a drill to make some holes and filled them with solder and was finally able to get it to work smoothly. crazy.
