The filter membrane stopped working after 2 months

I wanted a Berkey alternative that was easier to use. And the Lifestraw water jug is the closest thing to truly purified water. I like the look of the jug but the wide body makes it awkward to put in the fridge. But I decided to deal with it. The filters worked perfectly for the first few months. Then I left for 30 days. I have read the manual which says the filters are fine up to 2 months of non-use. I washed and dried the jug and let the filters dry. When I came back I found that the water jug was NOT filtered at all. Not a drop of water runs out of the filter. I have tested and found that it is a filter membrane that should last a year. No carbon filter. I am very disappointed with this filter jug. I wasn't happy that there should be lukewarm water on the counter because it didn't fit in the fridge. I liked the filtered water taste and ease of use. But having to pay for filter membrane replacement 2 months after first use is expensive and shouldn't happen. Also, the pitcher doesn't hold much water compared to other filters. I can only fill the tank 2 1/2 times. No more water can be filtered, even if the pot is only 2/3 full at that moment.

Pros
  • Smart and ECO-FRIENDLY design. The elegant jug is made of durable, BPA-free plastic and comes with a practical lid. The jug holds 7 cups (about 3 refills) of refreshing clean water and fits most fridge doors.
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks
