Love it. great camcorder for the money!

I hesitated to buy an HD camcorder for so long. I used to have a Cannon MiniDV with tapes, and then I got a standard JVC HDD camcorder (hard drive). JVC had such poor picture quality that it was like throwing money away. I took it on vacation and threw away all the footage as unusable. I've tried many Sony camcorders and other HD camcorders in stores over the last few years and have been frustrated by the shaky nature of the picture and the fact that the picture is blurry even when panning at the slowest speed. I had been researching this Panasonic camcorder purchase in the weeks leading up to a recent vacation and was about to give up and pick up my Cannon MiniDV camcorder again. Finally, I saw the reviews of this camcorder and what struck me the most was the talk about zoom and stabilization. To be honest, these two features mean the most to me (besides a good picture). So at the last second I bought this camera and shipped it to my destination as I didn't have time to mount it at my home before I left. It was immediately intuitive without even looking at the manual. This is an amazing improvement over my previous camcorders. I love how you can turn it on and off easily by closing the viewfinder. I record my son's soccer games and just taped the first game of his 8 man league summer season tonight and it was AMAZING to be able to close the LCD screen and set a record about a second after opening it. Two and a half hours of playtime with this technique had little to no impact on battery consumption. With my previous camcorder, I had to leave it on quite a bit between games and was always sweating when it ran out of power. The zoom on this unit is nothing short of amazing, but zooming without good stabilization would be useless. Luckily, this camcorder has amazing stabilization. With my previous camcorders, I either had to use a tripod, which was bad for on-the-go filming, or I had to work hard to stay absolutely still and keep my arm close to my body, and I've never had good results with handheld zooming (This is only at 12x magnification). Increase). This camcorder easily achieves 40x zoom with great pictures and a simple effort to keep it steady. With no zoom you can jig pretty damn close and calm. Love it. I have a 32GB SD card and it looks like I'm going to record 5 hours of video in this camcorder's default mode (HD AVCHD at 60fps). This is perfect because I'll always be deleting this on my computer sooner rather than later. I have a 73 inch 1080p TV. and these shots suit him really well. a massive upgrade from the blurry stuff I get from other cameras (most of the blur comes from viewing on such a big screen). I'm so glad I bought this. I also watched video recordings while on vacation and used this function to take photos from still images. breathtaking. Being able to move frame by frame to find the best shot and still get a truly amazing quality image is great. A couple of times on vacation I had a group ready and they posed like I was just filming and filming. Then, after the holidays, I could find that exact moment when the band looked their best. No more being a split second away from the perfect shot and not knowing it. with this. Just record a video and choose photos later. I don't print large 8x10 photos anyway, but for Facebook photos and standard size photos these prints look fantastic, as do those from my regular 12 megapixel camera. I'd rather record video and extract images than try to snap on the fly while filming a video. I haven't found a feature that I don't like about this device. The software worked flawlessly for me and viewing images on the camcorder was extremely easy. I had no problems with the battery that came with it. I've never filmed a continuous long event, but it easily took a whole day on vacation, and it was again easier than ever to film plays. The built-in LED light is quite neat and handy in a dark place. And I love that it has a built-in lens cap. I don't miss the fact that it doesn't have a viewfinder. The screen is excellent and much more comfortable. As long as I have enough battery life to do what I want, I prefer using the LCD screen. I also think the panning on this camera makes the image smoother than most others I've tried. You still don't want to pan too fast. Although in general. the less active zooming and panning, the better. Zoom in, then shoot. Then zoom out if you can. When panning, the best shot is usually panned more slowly, but this seems to work well when I'm shooting sports and tracking a relatively fast-moving target like a soccer ball in the air. All in all, this camcorder is the best $500 I've spent in a LONG, LONG TIME.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and chunky
