In the picture he was 10 months old , so you can see that they fit him a little more. These are his favorite shoes since we bought them. They are flexible so they are easy to enter. I'm not exactly sure what the bottom is made of, but it definitely helps his foot hold onto the ground. He likes them so much I bought a black one too (2 months later - now they fit him perfectly). I bought another similar brand and didn't like it. I think the toe box of these shoes is stronger than others. Finally, if your toddler's foot slips, make sure their foot is all the way forward and their ankle is as high as possible.
