I got one of these devices for Christmas, hooked it up and used it for a few months. The device is great for assessing total and individual usage of devices around the home, as well as identifying trends and observing the impact of various energy saving practices such as turning off lights, turning off computers at night, etc. It takes 15-30 seconds for the base station updated power consumption change dates. This may be because I use a spinning metal wheel on my mechanical control box. Since in my setup it counts the revolutions of the wheel in the meter, it needs to track the entire revolution to note the change in speed and therefore the change in power consumption. This can be faster with newer electronic meters. The device doesn't automatically reset the stats at the start of a new month, meaning you'll have to do it manually if you want accurate monthly stats by staying up until midnight on the last day of the month. Month. If you don't reset the device, the device will collect statistics indefinitely, making it difficult to reconcile device information with your utility bills. As others have pointed out, communicating with the device is largely determined by the use of other wireless devices in your home. I have two other outdoor sensors working on the same frequency and this can lead to situations where the device loses connection with the outdoor sensor from time to time. The only way around this is to move the base station closer to the outdoor sensor or move other wireless devices out of range. A sensor goes out of range overnight, hours of data can be lost, and a month's stats are virtually useless because they're incomplete. Usage trends over periods longer than, say, a week or more. The outdoor sensor has a very light silicone seal around the battery door to keep moisture out of the device. The problem is that the wire for the wheel eyelet runs through a piece of rubber that sits at the top of the compartment where the silicone gasket meets the case. The end result of this design is that it provides a place for water to enter the battery compartment which also contains the electrical circuit board and as all the seams are on top this is a natural place for water and gravity to collect can it helps. penetration into the compartment over time. This is exactly what happened to my device and within 2 months the silicone portal for the communication LED showed signs of water in the compartment. After increasing inability to communicate with the base station, I removed the batteries and let the unit dry on a warm, dry day. I put new batteries in the device and then closed it again, but the electronics appear to have been damaged by moisture. Blue Line Innovations, the device manufacturer, has a support number that you can call, but the RMA process is different from any other. another company I have worked with. Obviously the support staff cannot give you RMA information, nor can they direct you to a live person to discuss sensor replacement or repair, this is just a recall model. I've been waiting for a call back for over 2 weeks. now and i have called the support center on 3 separate occasions to try and expedite the return/replacement process and each time i have been told that they can only forward the information to the company and that i am just waiting for a call must return phone. So the bottom line is that if you can't get this unit at a hefty discount from the utility it's not worth the retail cost, plus if you live in a humid climate you might want to add some extra shielding or silicone door seals from the outside closed to prevent the outdoor sensor from prematurely ending its service life due to moisture. Water ingress into the battery/board compartment. I'm officially done with this device and will replace it with TED - [.]
