This is normal, but not for coarse hair types.
The brush is too thin for me. I know it needs to "wiggle" a bit to detangle and move through hair and scalp more easily, but it just isn't strong enough to detangle really easily. My hair isn't as thick or coarse (3b) and it's not much easier to detangle. I will say that it detangles better than a wide-toothed comb, but no more. So I don't recommend it for people with thick hair. I am sorry.
