So everyone says you need a metal extruder cap because the plastic won't hold. Well I had it 5 years old and it still ran but the brass gears were worn out. I was going to replace it with this one to see if I could improve the extrusion as I'm trying to speed up my print which requires more power. The metal base has not been threaded. I'm assuming this is either marriage or the necessary part I didn't have. However, I took all the parts, rebuilt mine on a plastic base, used a metal arm, put a new gear on the servo and a heavier spring, and off we went. Since I don't know what is supposed to be where the thread was on the plastic I won't name them, I didn't want to investigate, I wanted to continue the current (large, multi-part 3/4) work, I just used everything what I could and it COMPLETELY solved the problem I was referring to. It would just be nice if they either clearly said there was another part so I only got one star for that. The heavier spring and plastic base work great together so the original parts aren't bad, the combination of parts improved things but the original lasted almost 5 years. I'm a happy backpacker and would recommend an upgrade if you need one. Just make sure you choose the threadless Bowden hose connection.
