I first discovered this product while repairing some of my old books. Certain volumes that I ordered had spines that were loose or had holes in the dust jacket that threatened to grow over time. In search of a solution, I've read repeatedly on the internet about the value of using acid-free paper and glue for repairs. As a result, I bought durable Japanese mulberry paper. When the paper was ready, a suitable glue had to be found. Most websites emphasize the need for flexibility and durability in addition to avoiding over-acidification. The wheat pasta was the best option. Some people prefer to make their own pasta, and although Lineco sells wheat starch, I ultimately chose this PVA alternative because I was afraid of screwing up the process. Despite being a synthetic polymer, it appears to be just as effective as the natural alternative. Some of the other reviewers have expressed disappointment that their glue has become clumpy, but I haven't had any such issues. I can only assume that the damage occurred during the shipping process. My glue comes out of the tube with an evenly smooth consistency. You'll have to apply a little more pressure than usual to make it appear first. The only extra work besides opening the package was piercing the top of the container. However, the glue comes with the nipple to ensure longer durability. After applying it to books and repair jackets I was amazed at how it looked. This is a fairly quick drying adhesive, but I recommend leaving it in a stable position for at least three to four hours. My book covers now stay in place but with enough flexibility to allow for normal gentle handling. Because it's PH neutral, my repairs should last for decades. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is the cost.
