Review on Syba SY EXT32020 Matrix Switch Extender by Josh Reynolds

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product with a few features

Firstly, this product does exactly what it says it does: Map 1-4 inputs to 1-4 outputs. The resolution is of good quality, and when switching inputs it's fast enough that our projectors don't lose the signal and have to search for a second and then come back. This isn't true of other switches we've tried. The buttons on the front give a secure click and it's obvious when you press them. The remote control works well too, but needs to be pointed directly at the remote control sensor on the front. We haven't tested or used the audio features as we're only interested in video. A few things to note about this product: 1) If used in an application where the device is turned off and on between uses, it is important to note that this device will be factory reset. This means that input 1 is reset to output 1, input 2 to output 2, and so on. In our case, we rewired this device separately so that it maintains a constant power supply even when all other devices are off to maintain desired settings.2 ) The power cord isn't particularly long, so make sure you have power nearby or have an extension cord handy. 3) When switching inputs, the device beeps louder than expected. This occurs when using the control panel or remote control. If this is used in a professional application where the audience may be within earshot of the device, this can pose a problem.

Pros
  • IR remote control
Cons
  • Not as good as it promises
