Read Before Installing

Over the years we have had about 6 Petsafe doors in our home etc and I have installed them all. These are wonderful devices and they do a really good job. We use a small size that's perfect for cats (ours weigh up to 16 pounds). Therefore, this rating only refers to the small size. Some pointers that might be helpful: 1) This aluminum version is more durable than the plastic version from the same manufacturer and will last longer. In my opinion it's worth paying a little extra (although the other one is great too). Also a flap to close if you want to keep cats inside is much better. With another block, the cats figured out how to remove the cover. It has a metal channel for the striker plate and a locking bolt that snaps in place so it's much better. 2) The size of the template that comes with the installation guide is EXACTLY the size you need. If you cut a millimeter less than normal anywhere on the lines, you will need to cut again. This is a mistake, because it doesn't hurt to cut 1-2 mm more than the template and give yourself a little slack. So I say cut out a little more than the template. 3) The supplied plastic screws suck. I have no idea why they use plastic rather than metal screws. I think the idea is that you can bend them during installation. The heads easily break when an attractive force is applied to them. I always go to the hardware store and buy screws that are the same length and thread, but made of stainless steel (or some other weather-resistant metal). half store. If you want to give your pets free access to nature, that's great.
