This works for me: Mascara & Root Mascara

Let me start by saying that I think this product may be for you depending on your hair color and whether you are trying to control gray hair versus the to conceal usual. Roots of a different color. I use Nice 'n Easy Root Touch-up Dye to completely cover gray roots on auburn hair. For me, Root Touch-Up actually works better than regular hair dye. Like all hair dyes, this dye changes (oxidizes) after a few washes. So Dark Brown is VERY dark at first, but after 2-3 washes it lightens up a bit. ALL permanent hair dye will do this, but I have found that Root Touch-Up lightens LESS than regular hair dye over time. In my case, I paint over the VERY gray roots in the mid-part and along the temples, and it hides them VERY well and blends in well with the rest of the hair. I estimate my hair is around 60-70% gray but since I color it all the time I only see it at the roots. And no matter what hair color I use, I notice a little bit of gray within a week because the hair is MELTING. Aside from parting your hair differently, there's not much you can do about it. Gray roots on dark hair are obviously much more visible than gray roots on light hair. But in terms of actual gray coverage? Root coloring is PERFECT. Unlike the usual "dark brown" hair dye, Root Touch-Up actually turns my gray hair dark brown. Every other hair color I've tried gives me a blonde or orange version of brown because the gray isn't fully covered. Although the product contains a small amount of product, the pigment is much more concentrated than regular hair dye and a small amount makes a big difference. I think there's a safety benefit to this too: it's probably best to use as little hair dye as possible. Also, and this is key for me, the color of the darkest brown is a true neutral brown. I hate the red and coppery overtones that are present even in shades of brown advertised as "ashy" or "neutral." THIS PRODUCT IS A TRUE NEUTRAL BROWN. As my hair grows (I wear it long, mid-back) the Root Touch-Up color lightens a bit BUT REMAINS A NEUTRAL BROWN. No red casts. No brass overtones. This is crucial for me and makes this product perfect for me. This is the ONLY hair coloring product I've ever used that gives me the shade of brown I want. I've found my roots stay colored for about 3 weeks with Root Touch-Up; For me, this is the same time as a normal hair coloring. If you have high-contrast roots (grey on black or dark brown), you'll obviously see regrowth in a more distinct way. Hair dye comes with a lot of compromises, but for me, color fidelity, excellent gray coverage, and ease of use make this a great product.
