When ordering I was wondering if a long straw with wider bristles would fit through a long thin straw. It looks like this from the attached photo. In the photo I've included the longest straw I could find. The long brush must be used from both sides. By inserting the brush and twisting it back and forth, I either keep the straw completely submerged in the soapy water, or I hold it under the faucet so the water can run through the straw onto the brush. Of course they bend and need to be straightened. After the dirt got out of the straw, I realized the importance of keeping it clean and dry. I highly recommend these straws and small pipe or small hole cleaners. I push the brush through the straw and wash it. I also restore its bristles to fully straighten by sliding them back and forth between my fingers.
