Unreliability in a new AMD-based system

I bought this from Revain on August 6th to use in a new AMD Threadripper build for work. Granted, someone reported using a JMicron JMS583 and I haven't done any research on that chip. I've always had good luck with previous inateck products, so I made my decision quickly. It turns out that it uses the JMS583 A0 chip, which has problems with some Intel-based systems and newer AMD systems. JMicron released an updated JMS583 A2 chip in Q3 2019 to address these issues, but the device I received is still the faulty original chip. Anytime I subject the drive to significant stress, it completely crashes out of Windows, often causing my system to freeze until I unplug the drive. While I can still use the case on other older systems, I can't use it on the system I bought it for, which also means I'm limited in the speed at which I can use it. Issues and whether they impact your use case.

Pros
  • Heat dissipation: Thanks to the aluminum housing and high-quality thermal interface material, the hard drive housing dissipates the heat generated by a running hard drive well.
