I attached them to a bunch of branches in a large floor vase. They are great for this application, and the thin wire is almost invisible against the background of the branches. My next step was to hook everything up to a smart outlet so it would automatically turn on at sunset and turn off later at night. Here's where the problem started: After turning off and on again, the system is in OFF mode by default. That means you have to turn the light on manually with a remote control, completely eliminating the point of a smart socket. Since 99% of the time I actually want the light to burn at full power with no special effects, I simply cut off the supplied USB socket/remote receiver and connected a normal USB plug to the silver wires and connected 5V and GND. lines. It now works great with my smart plug, although I seem to have lost the remote control function. The seller was very helpful in confirming that my reconnection plan would work. This would definitely be a 5 star rating if the product could simply remember its previous state when power was removed and reapplied.
