Review on πŸ“· Sony DCR-SR200 Handycam Camcorder: 2.1MP, 40GB HDD, 10x Optical Zoom (Discontinued Model) by Michael Radhakrishnan

Functionality: gain something, lose something

Just so you know where I'm from, this DCR SR200 replaces a 9 year old Sony Hi-8 camcorder. Of course, it's very lightweight, transferring videos from camcorder to computer is effortless, the quality is light years better, and the camera function is handy. I mostly shoot fast action (hunting) and a slightly faster autofocus helps a lot. I've reviewed many camcorders and Sony as a brand has the fastest autofocus. I was surprised that the boot time wasn't much faster (about 5 seconds). And when the SR200 goes into standby mode, you have to toggle the top switch off and on again. On an old camcorder, it was activated by pressing the record button. It would be nice to have this feature again. It doesn't perform as well in low light as the old one, and a lot of the hunting happens at dawn and dusk. (Night shots are useless as all color is lost.) The old one compensated and still retained pretty good color, but the SR200 starts to fade when the sun goes down. I like the chunky battery that others complain about because if it wasn't there my thumb wouldn't be on the record button.

Cons
