It takes a little practice to get used to but creates great, natural curls. I like to use it on myself and also on my two girls. I followed the directions and used a lower temperature on brittle, dry hair, but the hair didn't hold the curl. Now I'm clueless pumping up this heat The curl is last and that's what I'm all about. You must have a glove. The glove is of great importance. If your tight fine hair won't hold the wand, use a gloved hand to hold the curl on the wand. A glove won't protect you as well as a heating pad when working with the oven, so you still need to be careful. I also like how quickly it heats up. Well designed. I am very happy with this purchase. I ended up buying a different size to make my baby's hair smaller and curled tighter around my face.
