I noticed some dirt on the bottom of the jug when I first got it. It's okay, I threw away the packaging and put it on the shelf. Now that my espresso machine is working I've used it (just over a month later), remembered the dirt and cleaned it. Except it doesn't get clean. I've used dish soap with no success. I then used Bartenders Friend as it is made for stainless steel and still no luck. I dried it and examined it carefully. There is some black sand/carbon on the surface of the steel at the bottom of the can. This is part of the manufacturing process. I can't figure it out. Now I'm stuck on a jar whose surface can encourage bacterial growth. It is necessary to take more, but from another company. live and learn
