Ideal if you want to turn your jigsaw puzzle into a memento. I've read several reviews mentioning that the glue seeps through and affects the surface underneath the puzzle. While it's always a good idea to protect your work surface (we used a flat 13-gallon white garbage bag), we haven't encountered any leakage. This is probably due to the different qualities of the puzzles compared to the Mod Podge itself. We love Ravensburger puzzles, the quality of their puzzles is such that there is no leakage between the thick pieces. The first layer we applied was on the back of the puzzle as it made sense based on our project schedule. By only applying a thin coat to the back of the puzzle, I was able to carefully put the 1000 piece puzzle together as if it were one piece. Mistakes are easy to fix and cleaning up is easy.
