I really wanted this bookcase to be liked. I have another one from this company (pictured right) and it's absolutely phenomenal, no problem. I bought it to store my less interesting books and chose it because the design looks good. As it turns out, there are two main problems that completely destroy any positive qualities it could have. Firstly, the shelves do not withstand a long wait at all. They bend as soon as a significant load is placed on them. So if you're planning on putting items on top of it that together carry a lot of weight, like, well, I don't know, books, well, that's just not going to work. The first photo shows the shelves being bent down just minutes after the books were placed on top. The shelves are not thick or strong enough to support the weight of this structure. In fact, the bottom shelf is so warped that the bottom cabinet doors, which opened smoothly and beautifully when I first assembled the shelf, had to be pulled hard to open due to the shelf being pressed so hard against the cabinet. Door. The scratches are already appearing on the top of the cabinet doors and on the underside of this bottom shelf. Second, this bookshelf is wobbly. As. a lot of. If I touch it lightly, it starts rocking back and forth like it's about to fall over. Even attached to the wall, it still wobbles when touched or something is removed from it. I feel like it needs to be screwed to the wall with brackets in a few places for it to be anywhere near stable. And it MUST be fixed to the wall. If you don't and there is significant weight on it, an accident awaits. I could see badly injured pets or small children accidentally tripping over and falling on them. Crazy security problem. What is killing me is that these issues can easily be solved with thicker, stronger shelves and this beautifully designed shelf would be awesome. But the company didn't bother making it a waste and complete garbage. So yes. Don't take this shelf. Also check out other shelves by this company. I really like the other one in the picture. But it's not just bad, it's dangerous. Don't waste your money on it.
