Review on Ultra-Thin Dimmable Industrial Electrical Ceiling Lighting - A Must-Have! by Carrie Hamilton

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Great looking and easy to install

The 5.5" version and the 8" version at a glance. It took me some time to read a number of reviews and comments, so I'll try to answer them in as much detail as possible in my review. The size you buy may have something to do with the issues you are having, but I haven't had a 5.5 or 8 inch before. First I bought two small ones. I wanted to add a light above my shower and when I did I decided to add a second one for more general lighting of the bathroom. It's small, with a lens area of around 3 inches, and that's exactly what I wanted. They seem very bright so I included them in the same circuit with a dimmer. I later decided it was good, but I needed a wider light, especially when dimmed, so I replaced it with the larger 8 inch version. Also, I realized too late that I needed to buy the white ones for this white ceiling setup, so I returned one of these for the 8" white version, and once I saw how it looked and worked I replaced the other one too . . comes with a translucent silicone gasket in a packaging that says 'outdoor install only' but the video that accompanies this product at Revain says it can be used in all 'wet' installs and I have it over the shower Installed. YES it was DIFFICULT to get to the end of the world, much harder with small light and much easier with big light. Suggest you put it in very warm water and stretch it, then wear it while it is warm. The rim of the case is thin and fits into a slot in the ring and I was able to put it on and then handle the case very carefully until I could snap it into place. I've noticed many complaints about the spacing between the holes. times 3" and that's for the 5.5" version, but the 8" version had that spacing. And the new octagonal plastic junction boxes of the "old work" had a set of 2.75" holes and another set of 3" holes. This is the correct hole spacing for 5.5" and 8" lights respectively. For those who need something different (and probably the largest light) the kit includes also a standard light adapter bracket (in a bag labeled "Universal Bracket Adapter"). for a J-Box, which would allow mounting regardless of the distance between the holes in the case. Not necessary for me. YMMV. The video showed one Set of short screws and one set of longer screws and I only got two sets of the same long screws with the 5.5" and that was a bit of a problem as the screws were too long and bottomed out. in boxes without proper dressing; I was able to find shorter screws for this setup. With the 8-inch mount, installation was easy despite the fact that two longer screws and two shorter screws are included. They are VERY well fitted, the silicone ring is barely visible and only if you look for it, and they offer a very modern, almost recessed look, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Luckily I didn't listen to the video that said the lens came loose when rotated CLOCKWISE; Paper instructions are essentially silent and useless. The lens is removed counter-clockwise. Well, I might have had to spray around the edge of the lens on one of the little WD-40s to get it spinning, the other came off, but not easily. With the 8 inch versions I was able to make more palm contact and the lens rotated slightly. However, I hardly see a chance that I will have to do it more often. Inside the case is a thin gray foam ring that is obviously unused, it doesn't completely fill the space between the LED well and the outer case and doesn't provide adequate thermal insulation. On the other hand, I don't see this generating much heat, so I don't see a need for it. You should note that no matter what size you buy, you will get the same light output. Although perfectly adequate. I counted 34 individual LEDs, which means you probably won't notice these if you have multiple bugs over time. I've noticed some complaints about 60Hz flicker when dimming, haven't seen it yet. Maybe my eyes aren't very sensitive to it.
